Following are the staff picks from the Cal Maritime Library collection, which we heartily endorse and recommend. Feel free to add them to your to-read lists for your New Year aspirational self!
Mark turned me onto this book and I loved it! It is a fictional account of the life of Dickins and the drug fueled obsession of his friend Wilkie Collins. As a reader you don’t know what is real in the story and what is Wilkie Collins’s delusional fantasy.
This is a memoir about a woman and her male friend who were kidnapped in Somalia and held hostage for over 400 days. The beginning of the book is about the author Amanda and her love of travel, particularly war torn countries, and her foray into photojournalism. This book is very well written and provides the reader with a history of the author and the events that led to her time in Somalia and eventual return home.
