Join ASCMA, the Cal Maritime Library and the Department of Culture & Communication for this week’s screening of the Maritime Film Festival. On Thursday, March 5th at 7pm and 9:30pm in Rizza Auditorium, we’ll be watching The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.
Here’s a brief description to help you make up your mind: “With a plan to exact revenge on a mythical shark that killed his partner, oceanographer Steve Zissou rallies a crew that includes his estranged wife, a journalist, and a man who may or may not be his son.”
Introduction by Alex Parker, faculty member in Science & Math Department
1st place winner of the Student Film Contest will be screened before Life Aquatic: Emily Walker is a freshman majoring in Marine Engineering Technology. Before coming to the Bay Area, Emily lived and went to school in England, where this short documentary was filmed. Chance of Rain follows two surfers from the south of England, James and Jamie, who enter the Isle of Wight Surf Competition despite the location’s famously unpredictable swells. As fate would have it, horrible weather sets in and nothing goes according to plan. This documentary began with a Southern California girl’s interest to experience a foreign surf culture and honors the spirit and determination of the two men whose passion for the sport is unquestionable.
