The African Queen: Maritime Film Festival

Join the Cal Maritime Library and the Department of Culture & Communication for this week’s screening of the Maritime Film Festival. On Tuesday, March 24th at 7pm in Rizza Auditorium, we’ll be watching The African Queen.

Here’s a brief description for background: “In Africa during WWI, a gin-swilling riverboat captain is persuaded by a strait-laced missionary to use his boat to attack an enemy warship.”

Introduction by Colin Dewey, faculty member in Culture & Communication Department

Erik Hanson’s 2nd place Student Film Contest film will be screened before The African Queen. Erik Hanson loves to travel and sail and is always on the lookout for an adventure. He is a Mechanical Engineering-USCG License track senior at California Maritime Academy. This summer he had the opportunity to sail on the Matson Mokihana as part of his education here at CMA. He also had the pleasure of sharing his love of basketball with kids in Guatemala through Athletes in Action. It was a jam-packed summer with many ups and downs, but amazing nonetheless. He hopes you enjoy seeing My Summer in 90 Seconds.
