Nationalism and Memory at the 9/11 Memorial

Please join us for the next Cal Maritime Scholar event, with Dr. Sarah Senk, Culture & Communication, in conversation with Dr. Frank Yip, Science & Math.

Professor Senk will discuss how our experience of historically traumatic events is changed by new technologies of representation and connection. The National 9/11 Memorial Museum invites visitors to relive the events of September 11, 2001 on a minute-by-minute basis, and then to record testimonies of their own experiences. In doing so, it crafts a narrative of national belonging and also blurs the line between first-hand witness and museum visitor.

Join us Thursday, February 23, at 1100 in ABS101. Refreshments served!

The Cal Maritime Scholar series was created to promote a culture of  research and scholarship on campus. It aims to share the excitement of research projects happening right now at Cal Maritime. Each event includes an interview by a faculty member outside the speaker’s discipline. Sponsored by the Cal Maritime Library.
