Nano-Materials and Organ Growth Research

How do engineers help medical researchers in their quest to grow human organs in a lab? Find out at the next Cal Maritime Scholar event this Thursday, March 16, at 1100, in ABS101.

Dr. Dinesh Pinisetty, Engineering Technology, will discuss computer simulation studies to understand the penetration of chemicals called cryoprotective agents (CPAs) through biological cells during the freezing preservation process. This work can be used in the development of a prototype device composed of nano-materials to control the freezing of stem cells that are critical to develop human organs. Dr. William Tsai, Mechanical Engineering, will follow the presentation with a short discussion.
