Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday honoring the departed. Create paper crafts in front of the Library to celebrate Dia de los Muertos on Thursday, November 1, from 11:00am – 2:00pm. The Library and Latinx Club are hosting this event, where we’ll make papel picado and decorate paper calaveras (skull) masks.
Papel picado are a Mexican art of cut paper banners, and are used to celebrate a variety of events or holidays. Traditionally the elaborate designs are punched using a set of chisels, but we’ll be making them a little simpler with paper and scissors.
Calaveras are often included in ofrendas (altars) to honor family ancestors. We’ll have 2-D paper versions for you to decorate.
